No wonder, then, that companies are increasingly using a film, video or animation to communicate their message and content in an engaging way. Think, for example, of a construction company that uses an animation film during the preparation phase to show residents which renovation techniques they are using and what will happen when. By communicating clearly, you strengthen the bond with the target group and create understanding, insight and enthusiasm.

which video or film do you choose when?

  • Films and videos are an excellent way to showcase your company and products or give an impression of a successful conference.
  • A corporate film is longer than a video. Say around 10-15 minutes.
  • Again, a vlog is short and very personal. Also often doesn't need to be so 'flashy'.
  • A video can be longer or shorter, with an interview or just graphics.
  • Either way, vlogs, videos and films are easily shared; therefore, you reach not only your own target audience but also the next 'shell'.

From concrete objective to roadmap

When do you opt for an animation and when for a (corporate) video? There are a number of considerations for this. What does your target audience want to see? What is your message? What fits best with your (house) style and brand? Depending on the complexity, production time differs: a simple animation takes less time than a 3D production.

What we don't like: blanks. Just by shooting some pretty pictures, you don't have an effective communication tool. Just like an article or a brochure, it is ultimately about content. Storytelling. And that is a profession in its own right.

We first formulate your concrete objectives. Is it increasing brand awareness, informing the target audience, lead generation or a commercial objective? Then comes the form. Will it be an animation film, corporate film, product film, instruction film, business video, event film, conference report, mood film or an advertising film? Or do we bet on a video campaign?

Once we have this all clear, we get to work. For example, with a roadmap.

Sample roadmap (animation) script

Where do you start when you want to put down a relatively complex story (because there is always much more to tell and explain) in 1 minute? These are the steps you can follow to create a good script:

  1. Start with a brainstorm: what should this story be about? What really needs to be in it? What is the core message of the story?
  2. Write a first rough draft of the storyline: what topics will be covered and in what order?
  3. After coordinating with the client, you can work out the whole story in steps: which topic is told how exactly? Write out your story verbatim.
  4. Share the script again with the client: is this the right outline and elaboration? Are we using the right terms? Is there anything nuance that needs to be added?
  5. After agreement, we make a (animation) proposal for each step: what exactly do you get to see? This can be sketchy or more elaborate with visualisations. Our starting point is always the client's house style, but of course you can also opt for a different set-up in consultation.
  6. Once script and animation story board are approved, you can start with the video or animation itself and get the voice-over recorded.
