IenW: towards climate neutral
assignment_
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (IenW), like other departments and implementing organisations, has the same goal: to be fully climate-neutral and circular by 2030. Every year, IenW reports on its progress towards this in a sustainability report. This report has two functions:
- Report: show what sustainability measures have been taken by 2024 and whether IenW is on track to meet its targets with them.
- Inspire: encouraging employees and stakeholders to even operate more sustainably.
IenW asked Voxx to report for the first time in 2024 fully according to the GRI guidelines 2021 (Global Reporting Initiative). A challenge, as this required a new way of reporting and requesting information from all theme triggers involved.
Voxx has risen to this challenge with pleasure and success: part of the report has already been tested GRI-compliant. We are immensely proud of the result. You can read the report here read.
"IenW's tenth sustainability report was one with lots of news: a new version of the GRI, themes that emerged from IenW's new dual materiality analysis and a new collaboration with Voxx. Under the guise of "don't fix what's not broken, but improve what is already there" we worked with Voxx to plot all these new elements into the existing processes."

IenW Sustainability Report: different perspectives - one story
starting together as the basis for a good result
We always start a project such as the sustainability report with a kick-off. Together with IenW, we discuss mutual expectations and agree on approach and desired result.
Such a joint starting moment is important: it creates clarity and ensures we have the same expectations. As a result created we from the outset support for the new way of reporting.
presenting information transparently
To keep the new way of working as manageable as possible, we introduced the shelf and a blueprint. The division of the report into chapters and 10 themes, provides a clear overview. The blueprint is A fixed layout of each chapter based on the GRI guidelines, which gives structure.
Both the board and the blueprint describe where what information can be described. This keeps a report compact without losing important content.
from ideas to results
The blueprint also guided the interviews with content specialists. It made clear where the main emphases needed to be placed. This ensured that writing draft chapters, editing, reviewing and re-refining was structured.
The report was an iterative process, resulting in a sustainability report that is complete, transparent but also more compact and results-oriented. Exactly what the GRI guidelines call for.

good formatting is half the battle
Apart from adhering neatly to the GRI guidelines in textual terms, all visual expressions also had to be clearly, insightful and according to national house style are.
How we did that? With the help of recognisable icons per chapter, clear graphs and a infographic we made figures, targets and achieved results at a glance clear. Naturally, het report also volly digitally accessible.
report past 50 people
Many people were involved in the creation of this IenW sustainability report. The report went through seven rounds of feedback, with up to 50 (!) people reading along at times.
The result? A report in line with the GRI, with stakeholders engaged and informed on time. This also ensures more mutual enthusiasm.
also create a report or white paper?
Whether you work for a government agency, drinking water company or civil society organisation: Voxx will help you from copy to conversion. With smart strategy, sharp content and visible impact.
"The information in the report comes from many different corners of the IenW organisation. Therefore, it is important that the copywriter also has a feel for the content. That way, interviews with content specialists can go well and in-depth questions can be asked."
